White House Cabinet Secretary and Co-Chair of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) Chris Lu and Initiative Executive Director Kiran Ahuja will address participants at the Initiative’s first-ever Texas Regional Conference, to be held at the University of Houston on Sat., February 23, 2013. The summit is being convened to create an action plan to engage and empower growing AAPI communities throughout Texas.

Between 2000 and 2010, the AAPI population grew faster than any other racial group in the country, increasing by almost 50 percent nationwide – four times faster than the total U.S. population. The Texas AAPI community has topped that statistic, growing more than 70 percent over the past 10 years. The White House AAPI Initiative works to increase access to and participation in needed federal services and protections for these and other populations.
