U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter will give opening remarks at the 2012 International Education Summit on the Occasion of the G8 at 9:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, May 3, in Washington, D.C. She will discuss the Obama Administration’s 21st century postsecondary education initiatives, the importance of education diplomacy, and the need for all students to develop global competencies. Following her remarks, Kanter will participate in a press briefing with Ambassador J. Adam Ereli, principal deputy assistant secretary of state for Educational and Cultural Affairs, and Allan E. Goodman, president and CEO at the Institute of International Education.
Entitled “International Education: A Global Economic Engine,” the summit convenes policy leaders from key countries to discuss national priorities, areas of collaboration, and global academic exchange of students and scholars, as well as to raise awareness of the economic impact of international education.
