U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter will give opening remarks at the Alabama Community College Association's (ACCA) annual conference, "Educating for Success," on Monday, Nov. 19, in Birmingham, Ala. Kanter will participate in a twenty-minute question-and-answer session following her remarks. She will highlight the role of community colleges in achieving the Obama administration's goal to have the best educated, most competitive workforce in the world by the year 2020, as measured by the proportion of college graduates over the next decade.

The conference is the annual professional development event for 26 community colleges and one university that make up the ACCA. The event attracts over 800 attendees from across the state who will come together to share ideas and actions that will help community colleges contribute toward students' success in higher education.
