U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will visit today with staff, volunteers and children participating in Horton's Kids, a weekly educational tutoring session taking place at the Department’s main headquarters building.
As the honorary chair of the 2011 Combined Federal Campaign campaign, Duncan will get a first-hand look at how the DC Metro area organization is using CFC funds to educate and empower children and their families. Horton’s Kids provides education and enrichment services to children living in Washington, DC’s Ward 8. The program, a recipient of the 2011 Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management, is among one of over 4000 charitable organizations that benefit from CFC.
CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign. Pledges made by federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season support nonprofit organizations such as Horton’s Kids that provide health and human service benefits.
The visit will take place at 4:45 p.m. ET today and a media availability will follow.
