U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will keynote the Aspen Institute’s Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence award ceremony at 12:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. He will discuss the need for innovation in community colleges to increase graduation rates and improve graduates’ job placement and enrollment in four-year institutions.
The $1 million Aspen prize is given in recognition of community colleges with outstanding academic and workforce outcomes. Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden and a life-long educator, is expected to give remarks later in the afternoon.
