U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will participate in a panel discussion—“The Future of Education”—at a national convocation hosted by the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities on Tuesday, June 26, at 1:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C. He will discuss the need for shared responsibility between federal and state government, institutions, and students in order to keep college more affordable and accessible. He also will highlight the significant role that public and land grant universities play in preparing students for the 21st-century global economy. U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter will join Duncan on the panel.

The national convocation celebrates the 150th Anniversary of the Morrill Act of 1862, which laid the groundwork for the democratization of public higher education.
