U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will visit with some of America's top high school science students competing in the Intel Science Talent Search 2013 Sunday at the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C.
The students will be among 40 high school seniors from 20 states who with their research projects will be vying for $630,000 in awards, including a top prize of $100,000 from the Intel Foundation. The Intel Science Talent Search 2013 is a program of the Society for Science & the Public and is the nation's oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition.
Secretary Duncan will talk with the students about their work and find out how they became interested in their research. Duncan has often stressed the importance of building a strong foundation of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to enable America to compete in the 21st century global economy.
