U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will commend hundreds of teachers and school administrators during a special session of the 2011 National Conference for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, July 29. The event will be held at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C.
In his remarks, Duncan will support the work of the NBPTS to set high professional standards for teachers and principals that focus on improving student learning. He will also encourage schools and districts across the nation to continue to strengthen the teaching profession and applaud teachers for their hard work.
Prior to Duncan’s speech, Karen Cator, the director of the Office of Educational Technology, will deliver the keynote luncheon address at 12:30 p.m. She will present the vision of teaching and learning articulated in the National Education Technology Plan, “Transforming American Education: Learning Powered by Technology.”
