U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will visit the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School Friday on New York's Governors Island, showcasing the school's unique career technical education program. While at the school, Duncan will observe students building underwater robots, repairing a boat, practicing water rescues and even breeding oysters.

The tour follows President Obama's proposal in his State of the Union Address to strengthen America's federal investment in career and technical education to better align programs with the needs of employers and demands of higher education.

Located in the heart of New York Harbor and accessible only by ferry, the public Harbor School offers a distinctive, on-water learning experience for its students. They learn to build and operate boats, spawn and harvest millions of oysters, design submersible, remotely-operated vehicles, conduct real-life research, dive underwater and learn from experts in science and industry.
