U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service by helping make math-focused learning toys that will be used in younger classrooms at Burrville Elementary School in Washington, D.C. Duncan will join City Year leaders and corps members, school officials and community members during the service project.
City Year is honoring the legacy of Dr. King through the day of service. Volunteers at the school and surrounding neighborhood will work on service projects that include painting murals, maintaining playgrounds, building benches and planting green spaces.
City Year is an education-focused, nonprofit organization founded in 1988 that partners with public schools to help keep students in school and on track to graduate.
