U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will deliver a luncheon address to the Council of the Great City Schools’ Annual Legislative/Policy Conference Sunday in Washington, D.C. He will discuss how local districts can lead education reform. Among those attending will be urban school leaders, including superintendents, board members and senior administrators.

On Monday, Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Russlynn Ali will speak to an 8 a.m. breakfast meeting of the conference, discussing the recently released Civil Rights Data Collection and the work of the Education Department’s Equity and Excellence Commission.

At 9 a.m. Monday, Acting Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Michael Yudin will discuss state waivers from key provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act as well as the Department’s Race to the Top competitive grant program, which supports comprehensive education reform on the local level.
