U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will participate in a TEACH community event, at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 17 at Dr. Henry A. Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Md. The TEACH community event is a teacher appreciation and recruitment event organized by local leaders, in conjunction with the TEACH campaign. Secretary Duncan will recognize educators from Prince George’s county, thank them for their work, and he will call on young adults to pursue the teaching profession, stressing the need for more teachers in hard to staff areas and subjects.
The TEACH campaign's mission is to inspire the next generation of great teachers to enter the classroom. TEACH is especially dedicated to encouraging a more diverse teaching workforce and to finding teachers for hard to staff subjects

The site provides information and resources for students and prospective teachers—including a new interactive "pathway to teaching" tool designed to help individuals chart their course to becoming a teacher. Currently, there are nearly 8,000 vacant jobs available on TEACH and over the past 11 months over 45,000 jobs have been posted, many of which have been filled.
