Melody Musgrove, director of the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), will tour Sedalia Elementary School in Sedalia, N.C., today, Nov. 17, and discuss the school’s modernization needs and how the American Jobs Act would help. As proposed, the American Jobs Act would provide North Carolina with:
- $675.6 million for modernization efforts to rebuild crumbling buildings and classes, which could help begin work on long overdue upgrades to schools and classrooms, supporting an estimated 8,800 jobs
- $900 million to prevent an estimated 13,400 teacher layoffs for one school year
As OSEP director, Musgrove oversees the administration of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which ensures that America’s 6.6 million children and youths with disabilities have the right to a free appropriate public education.
