U.S. Department of Education to Host Correctional Education Summit on Monday in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Department of Education will host a Correctional Education Summit on Monday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. ET at the Department's headquarters in Washington, D.C. Assistant Secretary for Vocational and Adult Education Brenda Dann-Messier will deliver opening remarks. Following her remarks, a panel of experts will join Department officials to discuss the state of education in correctional facilities.

Panel participants will include Luis Garcia, doctoral student at Loyola Marymount University; Jose Ferreira, founder and chief executive officer of Knewton; Stefan LoBuglio, chief of Pre-Release Reentry Services in Montgomery County, Md.; and Candace Putter, executive director of the Pennsylvania Academic and Career/Technical Training Project.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will close the summit with brief remarks, following a panel presentation of recommendations resulting from the summit.

Members of the press are invited to attend opening remarks from 10-11 a.m., and the closing panel from 2-3 p.m. ET, or watch via webcast at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/education-department. Duncan will speak during the 2-3 p.m. closing session.
