The Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell, director of the U.S. Department of Education’s Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, will participate in a symposium titled “Faith and Neighborhoods in Action: A Symposium to Address Economic Recovery through Strong Communities and Job Creation.” She will moderate a panel that focuses on ways in which faith-based and secular community partners can become more engaged in education. She will highlight “Together for Tomorrow,” an initiative that spotlights and fosters partnerships among schools, families, national service programs, and community-based organizations in order to help turnaround low-performing schools.
Later, Girton-Mitchell will serve on a panel moderated by Joshua Dubois, executive director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Her remarks will highlight the Department’s efforts to improve education achievement through community partnerships.
