Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement, will give remarks at the Black Alliance for Educational Options: Symposium 2012 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C. He will discuss the opportunity that America has to make unprecedented progress in the battle for educational excellence and equity, and the role that African Americans can play in informing, shaping and driving education reform.
The Black Alliance’s symposium began today and will run through tomorrow, March 2. This year’s theme, “A Dozen Years of Advocacy: What’s Next?” will focus on the organization’s victories, challenges and strategies to increase access to high quality educational options for African American children by supporting policies and programs that empower low-income and working-class black families.
