U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan welcomes the new 2011-12 FFA National Officers to the U.S. Department of Education headquarters today at 4 p.m. ET. Duncan will congratulate the student officers, thank them for their leadership, and discuss the administration’s support for agriculture education, and career and technical education. The meet-and-greet will be followed by a group photo with the students.

From 4:10 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET, the students will meet other Department senior officials, including Deputy Assistant Secretary for Rural Outreach John White and the Department’s agriculture education program specialist, Dr. Steve Brown, who serves as a national advisor to the FFA, founded in 1928 as Future Farmers of America. This school year, new officers are traveling throughout the country to engage top leaders in business, government and education. These meetings will help set policies that will shape the future of the National FFA organization and promote agricultural literacy.
