U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will highlight the Department’s work to strengthen and elevate the teaching profession – including efforts to attract and retain great educators in urban districts – during a panel discussion at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 30. Duncan will join National Education Association Secretary-Treasurer Rebecca Pringle and D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson for the event, which will be at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C.

The discussion will center around the release of a two-year national study on “The Irreplaceables,” which explored the teacher retention crisis in America’s urban schools. The study was conducted by TNTP, a national nonprofit founded by teachers that strives to end the injustice of educational inequality by providing excellent teachers to the students who need them most and by advancing policies and practices that ensure effective teaching in every classroom.

Participation is limited, and members of the press are asked to RSVP at tntp.org/RSVP. A media availability will follow the panel discussion.
