U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will travel to Williamsburg, Va., on Friday, July 13, to discuss college affordability and completion at a roundtable with presidents from several Virginia colleges and in an address at the National Governors Association (NGA) summer meeting.
At 1:15 p.m., Duncan and Under Secretary Martha Kanter will co-host a discussion on college affordability at the College of William & Mary, along with its president Taylor Reveley. Several other college presidents (listed below) will participate in the event, entitled “College, Cost, and the Commonwealth.” Open to the public, the roundtable is part of a series of conversations that senior Obama Administration officials are having with higher education leaders across the country on increasing college access, affordability, and completion.
At 3:00 p.m., Duncan will give remarks at the NGA conference, providing an overview of K-12 reform efforts, challenging states to maintain support for higher education, urging colleges and universities to hold down tuition costs, and other efforts to meet the President’s goal of leading the world in college graduates by 2020.
