U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter will tour the Contra Costa College warehouse training facility, which it operates along with the Richmond Workforce Investment Board and the San Pablo Economic Development Corp., on Friday, April 19, in Richmond, Calif. The tour will highlight how recent investments have strengthened local partnerships between community colleges and employers. A press availability will follow the tour. Kanter will join Acting Secretary of Labor Seth Harris and Contra Costa College President Denise Noldon. Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., will participate in the press availability and join in announcing a major grant to fund training for in-demand, high-growth jobs.

Contra Costa College is part of the “Design-It Build-It Ship-It” consortium of 10 community colleges in the East Bay area of San Francisco that was awarded $15 million through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant program. The grants help support regional partnerships, build career pathways and enhance industry engagement in the advanced manufacturing, logistics and engineering industries.
