U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter will serve as a panelist in a discussion of "Bridging the Higher Education Divide: Strengthening Community Colleges and Restoring the American Dream," a new report to be released by The Century Foundation on Thursday, May 23 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. The report provides thoughtful insight on preventing community colleges from becoming separate and unequal and provides solid recommendations toward that goal, including creating new outcomes-based funding in higher education, and reducing the racial and economic stratification between two- and four-year institutions.
Among her duties as under secretary, Kanter administers policies, programs and activities related to postsecondary education, adult and career-technical education and federal student aid. The other panelists she will join are: Anthony Marx, president, New York Public Library and former president, Amherst College; Eduardo Padrón, president, Miami Dade College; Richard Kahlenberg, Senior Fellow, The Century Foundation; and Issac Cameron, former student, Highline Community College, and Amherst College graduate. Jonathan Alter, columnist, Bloomberg View, will moderate the discussion.
