U.S. Under Secretary Ted Mitchell will keynote the Pacific Northwest Summit on College Affordability on Thursday, Aug. 27, in Seattle. He will discuss President Obama’s America’s College Promise proposal to make community colleges in America tuition free for two years, as well as the Department’s work to make college more affordable.
The summit, the third of a national series inviting local, regional and national leaders to discuss making post-secondary education more accessible and affordable, will address ideas for improving college access, including the innovative use of technology; best practices for helping students; and ways some corporations are making college more affordable for their employees.
The Obama Administration strongly believes that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, and education is crucial to the economic strength and security of our nation and communities. The Department of Education’s work is focused on ensuring that all students receive an education that prepares them for success in college, careers and life.
