U.S. Under Secretary of Education Ted Mitchell will visit the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (WHIHBCU) Board of Advisors Meeting Wednesday to discuss President’s Obama’s free community college proposal and the Administration’s plan to create a college rating system. The meeting will take place at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The community college proposal would make two years of community college free for responsible students, letting students earn the first half of a bachelor’s degree and earn skills needed in the workforce at no cost. The college rating system is aimed at providing useful information to students and encouraging institutions to improve. It would expand college opportunity by recognizing institutions that excel at enrolling students from all backgrounds, focus on maintaining affordability, and succeed at helping all students graduate.
