U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will give remarks and participate in a panel discussion with local educators on Thursday, Aug. 21, at Jefferson Academy Middle School in Washington, D.C. This back-to-school event will focus on the changes educators are engaged in and the progress that has been made so far, and the ways the federal government can partner with states to be most helpful to teachers and school leaders, while still ensuring our students are on the road to success.

At the event, Duncan will discuss new steps the Department is taking to help support teachers, school leaders and students during the transition to new standards and assessments, particularly related to educators’ evaluations. Kaya Henderson, chancellor of the District of Columbia public schools, also will join the conversation.
