U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will give remarks at the National Association of Secondary School Principals' (NASSP) National Principal of the Year awards gala on Friday, Sept. 20, in Arlington, Va. He will recognize the exemplary work of principals across the country who have taken on the challenge and commitment to lead. Duncan will discuss the importance of strong school leadership and the Department's plans to better include the "voices" of principals in key policy and program activities in the coming year.
The U.S. Department of Education's recently launched Principal Ambassador Fellowship (PAF) program recognizes the important impact that a principal has on instructional leadership, the school environment and talent management. Duncan unveiled the program, modeled after the Teacher Ambassador Fellowship, earlier this year to better include principals' voices in dialogues surrounding education policy. The first group of PAFs will be announced in November.
