U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will participate in the White House Summit on Early Education, hosted by President Obama on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Duncan will moderate Panel 1:  Public Investment Leadership to Expand Early Education. The summit is a convening of prominent business leaders, philanthropists, advocates, elected officials and members of the public committed to the expansion of high-quality early learning opportunities for children across the country from birth through kindergarten entry.

At the event, President Obama will announce new efforts to enhance and expand the reach of high-quality public preschool programs in high-need communities. The President will also highlight new actions by the private, philanthropic, and public sectors to invest in and expand access to high-quality early learning opportunities in communities across the country. Over the last several months, Senior Administration Officials have traveled across the country to hear from local officials, education experts, business leaders, and the philanthropic community about how to best advance the President’s agenda to expand access to high-quality early education for all children in America.

This summit builds on the President’s call in his 2013 State of the Union address to expand access to high-quality preschool to every child in America. Since the President’s call to action, more than 30 states and cities have established new programs or expanded access early learning.

The opening and closing sessions of the summit will be open to pre-credentialed members of the media. The President is expected to deliver remarks during the early afternoon session, and the Vice President will deliver remarks for the closing session. Panel members will participate in breakout sessions; however those meetings will be closed press. Members of the media interested in covering the conference must RSVP.
