U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will participate in the Education and Workforce Committee session, "Supporting Governors' Innovation in Early Childhood Education," at the National Governors Association's (NGA) Winter Meeting on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. Duncan will talk about the Obama administration's early learning initiative. The president has called on Congress to expand access to high-quality preschool to every child in America. This initiative would create a federal-state partnership to provide new resources to expand high-quality state preschool programs for every 4-year-old from low-and moderate-income families and create incentives for states to provide access to additional children from middle school families.

NGA membership includes governors of the 55 states, territories and commonwealths. The association connects governors and their staff with congressional and administration representatives on key federal issues and assists governors with developing and implementing innovative solutions to public policy challenges.
