U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will give remarks, followed by a question-and-answer session, at the Children’s Law Center breakfast on Wednesday, July 30, in Washington, D.C. His remarks will focus on the Obama administration’s education reform initiatives and equity efforts, with a particular emphasis on how they aim to benefit low-income children. Duncan also will address the importance of high-quality preschool.

The Obama administration’s commitment to opportunity and equity in education underlies nearly every significant activity of the Department—from My Brother’s Keeper Initiative and the Excellent Educators for All initiative to the proposed $300 million Race to the Top-Equity and Opportunity grant program, which would create incentives for states and school districts to drive comprehensive change in how they identify and close opportunity and achievement gaps.
