U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. will give remarks at the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Annual Policy Forum on Saturday, Nov. 19, in Baltimore, Maryland. He will discuss advancing equity, transitioning to and implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and supporting educators. Following his remarks, King will participate in a “fireside chat” with CCSSO Executive Director Chris Minnich and take questions from the audience.
The forum began on Thursday, Nov. 17, and will run through Nov. 19. Its focus is ensuring that all students, regardless of background, are prepared for success in college, careers and life. That goal drives CCSSO’s work across a broad spectrum of efforts to boost student achievement—from increasing access to a strong early childhood education, to paving higher quality career readiness pathways, and building better educator preparation programs.
The Council is a nationwide, nonpartisan and nonprofit membership organization of state superintendents of education. The organization is committed to reforming the public education system in four strategic areas: educator workforce; information systems and research; next generation learners; and standards, assessment, and accountability.
