U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will deliver the commencement address during the College of the Menominee Nation's commencement ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, in the Menominee Conference Center in Keshena, Wis. He will applaud graduates for their perseverance and congratulate those who have overcome challenges to become first-generation college students in their families. Duncan also will encourage students to continue on the road to success but remember to give back through helping others, especially within their own tribes.
The College of the Menominee Nation was chartered by the Menominee people in 1993. The college, a land-grant institution, serves more than 600 students, 80 percent of whom are enrolled members or descendants of American Indian tribes. Along with offering various degree programs, the college also infuses its education with American Indian culture; thus preparing students for careers and advanced studies in a multicultural world.
