On Wednesday in the nation’s capital, U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. will deliver remarks at the U.S. Postal Service and the League of United Latin American Citizens’ dedication ceremony on the first day of issue of the Jaime Escalante Limited Edition Forever Stamp.
Escalante, who died in 2010, was the East Los Angeles teacher whose inspirational methods led inner-city high school students to master calculus. He was also the subject of the 1988 film “Stand and Deliver.” At the time of his passing, the U.S. Education Department issued a statement paying tribute to his life as an educator.
