Charles P. Rose, general counsel for the U.S. Department of Education, will deliver keynote remarks at the 27th annual conference of the Washington State Indian Education Association Tuesday in Tulalip, Wash. Rose will discuss a range of topics, including tribal consultations across the country during the past year, protection of native languages and reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
Among those expected to attend the conference are educators, families, tribal education department officials, early childhood educators and others. The association works to improve the quality of education for Native American/Alaska Native students in Washington State.
As general counsel, Rose serves as the chief legal officer for the Education Department and is the legal adviser to the secretary of education on all matters affecting the department's programs and activities.
