U.S. Education Official to Address 2013 ASU-GSV Advisors Education Innovation Summit

Jim Shelton, who will assume the role of acting deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Education in May, will deliver remarks in two sessions of the 2013 ASU-GSV Advisors Education Innovation Summit Wednesday at The Phoenician hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz.U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced recently that Shelton will become acting deputy secretary at the department after having served as assistant deputy secretary for the Office of Innovation and Improvement. In that position, he has overseen a diverse portfolio of grant programs involving teacher quality, school choice and learning technology.

At 10 a.m. PDT at the summit, Shelton will moderate a Main Stage panel in Ballroom L entitled, "That's Gold in Them There Hills! – How University Research Can Transform Education." Later at 11 a.m. PDT, he will discuss promising approaches in education during a "What Works Workshop" in the Cypress Room.

The three-day forum, hosted by Arizona State University in partnership with Global Silicon Valley Advisors, annually brings together nearly 1,000 industry leaders, visionaries, entrepreneurs, investors and activists who share ideas about promoting excellence in American education.
