Director Joyce Silverthorne of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Indian Education will consult with tribal officials to gather feedback on education matters affecting American Indians on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The consultation, at the University of New Mexico, continues the Department's efforts to fulfill President Obama's Nov. 5, 2009, Presidential Memorandum and Executive Order 13175, which directs agencies to engage in regular and meaningful consultation and strengthening of government-to-government relationships with Indian tribes. In addition to listening to education issues of concern, Silverthorne will provide updates on the President's Generation Indigenous Initiative as well as upcoming grant competitions.
The U.S. Department of Education Tribal Consultation Policy comment period is open from April 13, 2015, to July 13, 2015. The policy can be viewed at http://www.edtribalconsultations.org/ and comments can be sent to [email protected]
