Deputy Assistant Secretary for Rural Outreach John White will meet with representatives from rural schools and districts that have been awarded the Department's Green Ribbon School or District Sustainability Award on Tuesday, June 4 at the U.S. Department of Education. White will invite the honorees to discuss how their schools' green initiatives have been successful in improving school culture, what are the challenges and opportunities when implementing green initiatives in rural areas, and what else they believe other schools need to know.
Representatives from 64 schools are visiting Washington, D.C., this week to be honored for their exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, including STEM, green careers and civics. In addition, 14 school districts are being honored for the first-ever District Sustainability Award.
