The Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell, director of the Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, will lead a panel discussion on college and career readiness at the 52nd annual Progressive National Convention on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Mich. Joining Girton-Mitchell on the panel are Jennifer Wallace, financial aid programs outreach manager for the Michigan Education Trust, and Brooke Franklin, education and talent consultant for the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce. Some of the topics the panelists will discuss include why parents and students should begin preparing for college as early as elementary school; financial aid myths; making the transition from high school to college; and resources for nontraditional students. The theme of the convention is “Securing our Future.” It opened Saturday, Aug. 4 with sessions taking place through Saturday, Aug. 10.
