Carl Harris, deputy assistant secretary for the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (OESE), will keynote the 21st Annual Leadership Conference for Minority Administrators and the 10th Annual Southern Regional Minority Leadership Conference on Tuesday, May 31 in Biloxi, Miss. Harris will talk about the Department's work to support teachers and other education leaders and administrators, and share information on how the Department's proposal to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act invests in teachers and leaders. Harris also will discuss the importance of leadership and human capital in the context of turning around low performing schools, one of the top priorities of the Obama Administration's Blueprint for Reform.
The conference is designed to train administrators and aspiring administrators in skills needed to address issues such as: bridging the educational divide between students, discipline and school violence, exposure to model programs in reading, mathematics and science, parental involvement, technology, and current issues on civil rights.
