Event Date: Dec. 12-15, 2016
Representatives from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) will conduct a series of listening sessions in Texas during the week of Dec. 12. The sessions provide members of the public an opportunity to comment on the timely identification and evaluation of students with disabilities, as well as the delivery of special education and related services to all eligible children under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, or IDEA.
In an Oct. 3, 2016 letter to Texas Commissioner Mike Morath, the Department raised concerns regarding Texas’s compliance with a number of IDEA requirements. The state responded to the letter on Nov. 2, 2016. During the sessions, OSERS and the TEA are interested in hearing from parents, family members, students, advocates and school personnel.
