Eduardo Ochoa, assistant secretary for postsecondary education, will deliver the commencement address to more than 400 graduates at State University of New York (SUNY) College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill on Saturday, May 14. The ceremony will be at 1 p.m. near the Knapp Hall Administration Building.
Ochoa will discuss how SUNY Cobleskill has prepared students to be active and engaged participants in the global economy of the 21st century. He will also highlight the success of SUNY Cobleskill’s GEAR UP program, a federal grant program that is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The university’s partnership with middle and high schools has directly impacted students’ decision to continue their education. Their work complements the Department’s efforts to boost college completion while also helping to meet the President’s national goal of leading the world in college completion by 2020.
At this ceremony, the university will graduate students from its three colleges: the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the College of Business. This ceremony marks the charter centennial celebration for the university, which now enrolls 2,600 students in 50 programs across these three colleges and issues both bachelor’s and associate’s degrees.
