Senior U.S. Education Officials to Address Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities Conference

U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter and other top U.S. Education Department officials will participate in the 126th annual meeting of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities Sunday and Monday in Washington.

At 8:30 a.m. Monday, Kanter will deliver remarks to a session entitled, "Communicating Transparency and Accountability," discussing the administration's new affordability and accountability initiatives.

Earlier at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Catherine E. Lhamon, assistant secretary for civil rights, will participate in a panel discussion, "Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin and the Future of Diversity."  Lhamon will discuss recent guidance on promoting and supporting diversity in higher education released by the departments of Education and Justice.

Also on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., Maureen McLaughlin, senior advisor to the secretary and director of international affairs, will speak at a session entitled, "The Future of International and Foreign Language Education: What More Can Government and Universities Do Together?"
