Michael Yudin, acting assistant secretary for the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, will participate in the city of Portland, Maine's My Brother's Keeper Community Challenge Summit.

The White House launched the My Brother's Keeper initiative to address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and ensure that all young people can reach their potential. Through this initiative, President Obama issued a challenge—a call to action—to cities across the country to become "MBK Communities." These communities would align local resources needed to enact sustainable change through policy, programs, and partnerships.

In September, Portland became one of the first cities to accept the challenge.  Mayor Michael Brennan, the NAACP Portland Branch, Portland ConnectED and a diverse group of community partners have come together to begin work on this collaborative process.

The My Brother's Keeper initiative's report, Opportunity for All: My Brother's Keeper Blueprint for Action report, includes a set of initial recommendations and a blueprint for action to address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and help all young people succeed and reach their full potential.
