Ivory Toldson, executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and David Johns, executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, will give remarks at the National Council on Educating Black Children's 30th annual convention in Baltimore.

On Thursday, April 21, during the luncheon, Toldson will highlight the success of African-American males in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines, including computer science. During Saturday's luncheon, Johns will discuss promising and proven strategies to support the cognitive, social and emotional development of African-American students, including the importance of listening without judgement—a central theme from the Summits on Educational Excellence for African Americans. He will also discuss the work of the Initiative and the President's Advisory Commission to accelerate investments in learning and development.

The National Council on Educating Black Children's convention begins today, April 20, and runs through Saturday, April 23. This year's theme is "Black Minds Matter 2." The Council is a non-profit and civil rights organization that focuses on improving educational opportunities and outcomes for African-American children.
