Brenda Girton-Mitchell, director of the U.S. Department of Education's Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, will give remarks during a banquet of the Gary, Indiana, chapter of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The event, held Saturday, June 7, in Gary, will commemorate the 60th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. Girton-Mitchell will discuss the need for more equitable educational opportunities, especially for minority students, the progress that has been made since that historic court ruling and the challenges that lie ahead.
