The Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell, director of the Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and Michael Robbins, senior advisor for Nonprofit Partnerships, will deliver keynote remarks at the National League of Cities’ Biennial conference on Friday, Nov. 15 in Seattle, Wash. Girton-Mitchell and Robbins will talk about how the Department can work with mayors to bring together schools, families and communities to propel student learning. They will discuss the Department’s Together for Tomorrow (TFT) activities during an event titled “Mayors’ Education Reform Task Force.”
TFT seeks to spotlight existing projects and spur new community engagement in turning around persistently low-performing schools. During the event, Girton-Mitchell and Robbins will highlight the work of partnerships among schools, families, national service programs and community-based organizations.
The summit is the nation’s largest gathering of municipal leaders who are working to improve the lives of children, youth and families in their communities. This year’s theme is Leading and Managing for Results.
