Libia Gil, assistant deputy secretary and director of the U.S. Education Department’s Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA); OELA Deputy Director Marianna Vinson; and Johan Uvin, deputy assistant secretary, delegated the duties of the Assistant Secretary, for the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education will give presentations on English Learners at the International Convention and English Language Expo in Baltimore, Maryland, on Wednesday, April 6.
At 1 p.m. ET, Gil will give a presentation titled “Preparing English Learners for College and Career Readiness,” focusing on prek-12. At 3 p.m. ET, Uvin and Vinson will address ways to support ELs, focusing on older youth and adults in a presentation titled “The U.S. Department of Education: Supporting English Language Learning.”
The Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages International Convention and English Language Expo brings together English language educators for learning, networking, and sharing in an effort to advance the field.
