Catherine E. Lhamon, assistant secretary for the Education Department's Office for Civil Rights, will participate in a moderated discussion on the obligations of colleges and universities to prevent and address sexual assault, as part of a "Summit on Sexual Assault on College Campuses," hosted by Dartmouth College Monday in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Joining Lhamon in the discussion will be Anurima Bhargava, chief of the Educational Opportunities Section in the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division.

Lhamon's civil rights office has been vigorously addressing concerns about campus sexual assaults. In May, her office released a list of colleges under investigation by OCR for allegations of sexual violence. Earlier, OCR released updated guidance describing the responsibilities of colleges, universities and schools receiving federal funds to address sexual violence and other forms of sex discrimination under Title IX. The guidelines provide greater clarity about the requirements of the law around sexual violence—as requested by institutions and students.
