Senior Department Officials to Address President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Huntsville, Ala.

Several senior U.S. Education Department officials will participate in the meeting of the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Huntsville, Ala.

George Cooper, executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, will discuss recent activities of the Initiative; Jamienne Studley, acting under secretary, will give an update on the Department’s higher education agenda; and David Johns, executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, will discuss the work of this new Initiative, which began in March, 2013.

Other senior policy officials will discuss federal student aid and career and technical education. Ivory Toldson, deputy director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, will discuss the Department’s ongoing work that supports the educational pipeline, and a representative from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will discuss health disparities among students at HBCUs.
