Two senior U.S. Department of Education officials will address the full assembly at the National Baptist Convention USA – National Congress of Christian Educators at 2:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, June 18, in St. Louis, Mo.
Brenda Girton-Mitchell, director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and David Johns, executive director of the newly-formed White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, will discuss the Obama Administration’s agenda and initiatives to provide a great education for all Americans, including Ladders of Opportunity; the Preschool for All proposal; increasing literacy, high school graduation and college attainment; supporting success for boys and men of color; and family, community and faith-based engagement.
