U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will moderate a one-hour #stuvoice Twitter chat on Monday to gather feedback from students on how to keep college affordable and how the administration’s college rating system can be useful for students and families.
Last August, President Obama outlined an ambitious new agenda to combat rising college costs and make college affordable for American families. He directed the entire higher education community to collaborate on how to promote college value, access and affordability. In support of these efforts, the Department of Education has met with thousands of leaders and stakeholders to gather feedback, and we have seen an outpouring of ideas and enthusiasm throughout the country. The department has held dozens of meetings with thousands of people to discuss a college ratings system. Officials have met with a number of institution leaders about their shared responsibility to contain costs and convened some of the most innovative minds to think about how to help young people and adults make the best decisions for higher education – and how to help them succeed once they’re there. Monday’s chat on Twitter is a continuation of these conversations and an opportunity to gather input from students.
