U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will deliver the keynote address at the National Center on Education and the Economy National Symposium Tuesday in Washington, D.C. The symposium will focus on "What the U.S. Can Learn from the Nations with the Best Performing Education Systems." In his remarks, Duncan will discuss lessons on improving education from around the world. He will highlight examples from the International Summit on the Teaching Profession, hosted in March by the U.S. Department of Education in coordination with international and U.S.-based education organizations. The summit brought together education ministers, national union leaders and accomplished teachers from rapidly improving and high-performing countries to share lessons for strengthening education and elevating the teaching profession.
The National Center on Education and the Economy was created in 1988 to analyze the implications of changes in the international economy for American education, formulate an agenda for American education based on that analysis and seek wherever possible to accomplish that agenda through policy change and the development of applicable resources.
